About the event

Kemetic Yoga is an Afro-centric style of Yoga inspired by the culture and spiritual wisdom of ancient Kemet (Egypt).

Many of its unique poses and postures mimic the poses and postures depicted in hieroglyphic writing on temple walls, as well as symbolic representation of monuments such as teken (obelisk) and Heru-Em-Ahket.

In this workshop we will be exploring the poses and postures of Kemetic Yoga while applying what is known as the YogaSkills Method, focusing on matching movement with slow controlled breathing, sensitizing ourselves to subtle energy as it moves through body, and building Mental Skills such as patience, perseverance, and concentration.

Great for beginners and advanced students; particularly those who are looking for a slower, more meditative practice.

About the teacher:

A.J., known also by his artist name Bamidele Hotep, began teaching Yoga back in October of 2020 after receiving accreditation through Online Yoga School and the YogaSkills School of Kemetic Yoga. Prior to receiving his 200 hr training certification, along with extra credit hours to teach Yin, Restorative, and Kemetic Yoga, he practiced mostly Vinyasa style Yoga for 9 years, and Mindfulness based meditation for 11 years. Being a long time student of Buddhism and Yoga, A.J. has come to recognize similarities between the Eight Limbs of Yoga, and the Noble Eightfold Path, and will often bring up aspects of both paths during classes workshops, and one-on-ones. A.J. believes that Yoga and Buddhist Dhamma, have the potential to facilitate healing of mind, body, and the subtle energetic body, which is one of his greatest motivations for sharing these practices with others.
